Cancer Screening Q & A

What is cancer screening?

Cancer screening is a group of tests that detect precancerous or cancerous cells early in their development when they respond best to treatment. When cancer detection happens early, the five-year mortality rate is only 11%. When caught in the late stages, the five-year mortality rate increases to 79%.

Executive Medicine of Texas offers several types of cancer screening to not only detect cancer early but to prevent it altogether.

What are the types of cancer screening?

Executive Medicine of Texas offers several types of cancer screening:

Galleri™

Galleri is a cutting-edge screening tool that analyzes a sample of your blood to detect more than 50 types of cancer. It boasts a low false-positive rate and you can add it to your physical exam for a separate fee.

3D colonoscopy

A 3D colonoscopy is an advanced computed tomography (CT) scan that captures high-quality images of the large intestine (colon). Unlike traditional colonoscopy, there’s no anesthesia required, so you can return to work and other routine activities immediately after your appointment.

CT scan of the chest

If you have a history of tobacco use or you experience persistent chest pain or a cough that won’t go away, your provider might recommend a CT scan of your chest. This type of screening can diagnose lung cancer before it spreads to other parts of your body.

PSA test

A PSA test analyzes the amount of prostate-specific antigen in your blood. If your PSA levels are abnormally high, it may indicate prostate cancer.

Pap test

A Pap test is a preventive screening measure that detects cervical cancer in women. During a Pap test, your provider collects a sample of cells from your cervix. They send your sample to a laboratory that analyzes it for the presence of precancerous or cancerous cells.

Mammogram

A mammogram is a special type of X-ray that diagnoses breast cancer. It uses electronic sensors and ionizing radiation to capture images of the breast tissue.

Prostate exam

For men, a prostate exam, or digital rectal exam, involves your provider using a gloved finger to assess the size and position of your prostate gland. If they feel any abnormal growths, they can order additional screenings, like a PSA test.

Skin cancer screening

During a skin cancer screening, your provider assesses the appearance and general health of your skin. If they find any abnormalities, like unusual moles or other growths, they can order a biopsy and analyze them further.

Assessment of inflammatory markers

Chronic inflammation is one of the underlying mechanisms that may increase your risk of cancer. Executive Medicine of Texas can assess inflammatory markers in your blood through micronutrient testing and a lifestyle assessment.

If they determine you have markers for inflammation, your provider can develop an anti-inflammatory nutrition plan that aligns with your needs.
