Food Testing Q & A

What is Alcat food testing?

Alcat food testing analyzes a sample of your blood to determine how your body reacts at the cellular level to certain foods and beverages. Researchers have uncovered links between food and chemical sensitivities to various health problems, including migraine headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, joint pain, and fatigue.

By undergoing Alcat food testing at Executive Medicine of Texas, you can identify certain foods and ingredients that affect your health and quality of life.

Who can benefit from food testing?

Undergo food testing at Executive Medicine of Texas if you regularly experience:

  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Skin symptoms (i.e., rashes, hives, itchy skin)
  • Neurologic symptoms (e.g., headaches, mood swings, depression)
  • Respiratory disease
  • Stiff or sore joints
  • Chronic cough
  • Wheezing

You should also consider food testing if you have an autoimmune disease like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

What does food testing involve?

At Executive Medicine of Texas, food testing is a quick, outpatient procedure. First, your provider reviews your medical history and asks about your symptoms, including when they first started and if certain meals or snacks make them worse. Next, your provider conducts an exam and draws a small sample of your blood.

The team will then send your sample to an Alcat laboratory for analysis. At the laboratory, an independent Cell Science Systems team tests your blood sample. Your white blood cells are tested against foods and substances, in a manner that provides extremely accurate results. When the analysis is complete, the laboratory sends an easy to read, color-coded report to Executive Medicine of Texas, so your provider can review it with you.

The color-coded report includes a wallet-sized test results card, a list of foods to avoid, a food rotation plan, and a comprehensive breakdown of your results with an accompanying guidebook.

Are there different types of food testing?

The traditional Alcat test measures immune reactions to more than 290 foods, additives, and environmental chemicals. Executive Medicine of Texas offers the Alcat test and its various panels, such as:

  • Platinum Comprehensive
  • Comprehensive Wellness #1
  • Comprehensive Wellness #2
  • Comprehensive Wellness #3
  • Platinum Plus Comprehensive

Executive Medicine of Texas also offers a pediatric wellness panel.

What are the benefits of food testing?

Food testing offers various benefits. For example, if you know you have one (or several) food intolerances, you can avoid those foods or ingredients and reduce the risk of uncomfortable side effects.

What’s more, food testing can educate you on the importance of good nutrition and help you eat a more healthy and balanced diet.
